CENTRIC
Description
CENTRIC (Centre of Excellence in Terrorism, Resilience, Intelligence & Organised Crime Research) is a multidisciplinary, security-focused research centre located at Sheffield Hallam University. CENTRIC works with the four key stakeholders in the security domain: Citizens, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs), Industry and Academia. By doing this, CENTRIC aims to provide solutions to some of Europe’s most pressing contemporary security challenges through the delivery of ground-breaking research, advanced technological capabilities, professional expertise and training. The CENTRIC team has extensive experience of working in the security domain and has participated in over 50 independent, national, EU and international security projects.
Role in the project
CENTRIC has two core roles in 7SHIELD. The first is to research, implement and advise on the legal and ethical implications for the 7SHIELD project and the associated development of the 7SHIELD system resulting in an overarching framework. The second is to understand how social/online media can be used to monitor potential threats to ground segments of space systems and how operators can take advantage of social media to communicate with the public during an emergency. CENTRIC will also support the system integration efforts.
Key result #1
KR15: Social awareness and warning message generation
This KR will support the effective dissemination of information through social media to relevant citizens during an emergency. It will also support operations to understand, identify and monitor potential security threats that may be posted to social media in order to respond swiftly and prevent further incidents.
